Can reading improve your comprehension?

i enjoy reading a lot, but I seem to have terrible comprehension. The smallest noise will distract me, and i would have to read over what i just read. If i keep reading, will my comprehension get better? it seems to be working lately. i've been reading a lot more since last year, and i think i've been getting the hang of it and not having to read over pages.
